Frequently asked questions

What time is sunrise today?

Allow location access on this page and Solarc shows today’s sunrise time for your exact position in your local time. The widget at the top gives you today's exact sunrise. The 100-city list below covers major locations worldwide, and the highlights box flags where the sun rises earliest and latest on Earth today.

Where on Earth does the sun rise earliest today?

The earliest sunrise today is in the easternmost inhabited time zones — typically Kiribati, Samoa, New Zealand, or Russia's Kamchatka peninsula depending on the date. Solarc shows the exact city and local time in the highlights box above. The location shifts north/south through the year as Earth's tilt moves the sunrise circle.

Where on Earth does the sun rise latest today?

The latest sunrise today is in the westernmost inhabited time zones — Hawaii, French Polynesia, and parts of Alaska. The exact city is shown in the highlights box above. Near the summer solstice, polar regions can also have no sunrise at all (24-hour daylight) and near the winter solstice they have no sunrise (polar night).

Why does sunrise time change every day?

The Earth's tilt and orbit shift the sun's apparent path slightly each day. Sunrise moves earlier or later by up to a couple of minutes daily, fastest around the equinoxes and slowest around the solstices.

How accurate is today's sunrise time?

Times are computed with Astronomy Engine and match the NOAA Solar Calculator to within about one minute. Hills or buildings on your eastern horizon can shift the visible sunrise by a little more.
