Privacy Policy

Who we are
Solarc is a free solar calculator showing sunrise, sunset, twilight, golden hour, and live sun position on an interactive map. It is run by an independent operator. For any privacy-related question, write to mihaipopaalexandru@gmail.com.
What data we collect
Solarc itself does not require an account and does not store any personal data on its servers. The features that involve data collection are:
- Geolocation. If you grant browser permission, your latitude and longitude are read once to center the map. The coordinates stay on your device and are passed to OpenFreeMap as part of map tile requests.
- URL state. The location and date you view are encoded in the URL (e.g.
?lat=44.43&lon=26.10) so you can share or bookmark the view. Solarc does not log these URLs. - Analytics & ads. If you accept cookies, Google Analytics and Google AdSense receive standard web analytics data (IP address, page views, device, referrer) and may set cookies. If you reject, no analytics or advertising cookies are set and Google services run in a cookieless, non-personalized mode.
Cookies and consent
On your first visit, Solarc asks for your cookie preference via a banner. Your choice is stored in your browser’s local storage under the key solarc-consent. You can clear it at any time by clearing site data in your browser, after which the banner will reappear.
Solarc uses Google Consent Mode v2. Until you accept, all advertising and analytics storage is set to denied and Google services run without cookies, sending only aggregate, non-personalized signals.
Third parties we use
- Google Analytics 4— aggregate traffic measurement. Google Privacy Policy.
- Google AdSense— advertising. Personalized ads only when you accept.
- OpenFreeMap— map tile delivery. They receive map tile requests (which include the area you’re viewing) but no personal identifiers from Solarc.
- Railway— hosting provider for the Solarc application.
Data retention
Google Analytics 4 retains event-level data for 14 months by default. Solarc itself stores nothing about you on its servers; the only persistent value is the consent flag, which lives only in your own browser.
Your rights (GDPR / UK GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you
- Request correction or erasure
- Object to processing or withdraw consent at any time
- Request data portability
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
Because Solarc stores no personal data on its own servers, most of these requests are handled by clearing your browser’s cookies and storage for this site. For Google-held data, you can use your Google account controls. For any other request, email mihaipopaalexandru@gmail.com.
International data transfers
Google services (Analytics, AdSense) are operated globally and may process data outside the European Economic Area, under standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.
