Sunrise where you are

Detecting your location…

Sunrise is the moment the top edge of the sun first appears above the horizon. The exact time depends on your latitude, longitude, the date, and your elevation, so it differs from one town to the next and shifts a little every day.

Solarc calculates sunrise with Astronomy Engine and shows the result in the local time of the place you are looking at. Allow location access above and you will see the sunrise time for exactly where you are, then open the interactive map to explore the whole day.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the sunrise time near me?

Allow location access when this page asks, and Solarc shows today’s sunrise time for your exact position. You can also search any city or tap a point on the interactive map.

Why does the sunrise time change every day?

The Earth’s tilt and its orbit around the sun shift the sun’s apparent path slightly each day, so sunrise moves earlier or later by up to a couple of minutes per day. The change is fastest around the spring and autumn equinoxes.

How accurate are these sunrise times?

Times are computed with Astronomy Engine and agree with the NOAA Solar Calculator to within about one minute. Hills or tall buildings on your horizon can shift the visible sunrise by a little more.

When is the earliest sunrise of the year?

In the Northern Hemisphere the earliest sunrise falls a few days before the June solstice, not exactly on it. The precise date depends on your latitude.
